... was founded in 1904 by Wallace Waite, Arthur Rose and David Taylor, as a small grocery store in Acton, West London: Waite, Rose & Taylor. David Taylor left the business two years later, and the name Waitrose was adopted in 1908. The company was taken over by the John Lewis Partnership in 1937, by which time it consisted of ten stores and 160 employees.
In August 2016, Waitrose had 350 stores across the UK.
